Naples and Leghorn

In 2023 the Mexican street artist, Maker Garcia Chiavez, made this mural in via Tribunali, Naples. The painting shows the famous Italian actress, Sophia Loren, who starred in English-language Hollywood films starting in 1957.

Last week I visited Leghorn, a seaside town located in the Tuscany region, Central Italy.  Leghorn is the English name for the Italian port city of Livorno (photo above). The term Leghorn also refers to a common breed of domestic chicken, which was introduced to Britain from the United States in 1870. 🐓  It was originally exported from the Italian port of Leghorn, that's why this breed of domestic chicken has the same name as that Italian town.

In the meanwhile, inflaction rate continues to increase, thanks to the rising cost of oil and gas. This morning the price of lemons on a grocery store shelf was 6,69 euros per kilo  🍋🍋🍋

Have a lovely weekend 🍁🍄🌰

  1. Ciao Giorgio, Livorno mi ricorda una mia cara amica...
Inflazione? Per me quando si và a comprare è come se ti rapinassero.
    La vedo dura...
    Un abbraccio 💖

    1. If Washington and Tel Aviv were to attack Iran again and again, inflaction would rise sharply.

  2. Hola, Giorgio.
¿6,69 Kg los limones? ¡Madre mía!
    Buen fin de semana.

  4. Interessante Bilder aus Livorno. Ich würde gern wieder einmal die Toscana besuchen. Aber die steigenden Preise verhindern so manche Reise.
    Viele Grüße Anette

  5. Hi Giorgio!
Unfortunately, I’ve never had the chance to visit Naples…
Giorgio, as for Sophia Loren—she's a great, undisputed lady and a magnificent artist! Sophia Loren is a true star of the film world!!!
Best wishes, Giorgio! Have a lovely evening and a great Sunday!
    P.S.
Giorgio, speaking of prices—I was shocked 4 days ago when I saw the price of a "Milka" chocolate bar (250 grams) in a store: about 7.77 euros. It has never been this expensive before! I know, because I’m a fan of "Milka" chocolate. The previous "highest" price was about 1.50 euros lower (and that was just 2 weeks ago).

    1. Regarding inflaction rate in your country, your example shows that the price of "Milka" has increased by 20% since early October. 20% more expensive in just two weeks. This is a combination between inflaction and speculation.

  6. Sophia Loren was always a favorite in our household. This is a beautiful mural. That seaside town looks very inviting. Ohhh I can't even think of prices. It is so expensive at the stores and the price of gas in my area is well above the so called average of the US. Over $5.00 a gallon. In fact today it is $5.13 a gallon. Lemons are sold by the each here and I won't pay the price they are asking. It's terrible everywhere.

    1. You are right, Nicole. How you we pay $ 1,50 one lemon. Maybe you could plant a couple of lemon trees in your garden.

  7. Fantastic photos from a wonderful city! Almost all of Italy is absolutely beautiful!!
We have high inflation here too, and it makes daily life difficult, but I’ve never seen lemons cost over 4 euros before!!

  8. Lovely photos and interesting about the Leghorn chickens. Sophia Loren, still with us and I remember her well as an actress. The likeness in the painting is there.
Those lemons are expensive and also down here too.
Petrol is 2.49.9 AUD at the moment.

    1. Petrol is expensive in your country too! If I had a big garden, I would plant lemon and olive trees. Olive oil will also become more expensive in November, when olives will be harvested.
Sophia Loren now lives in Geneva, Switzerland.
      Greetings

  9. I find seaside towns to be so beautiful! Seaside towns in the Tuscany region must be extra beautiful. Seeing the word "Leghorn" reminded me of a cartoon I watched as I child, it was a Looney Tunes rooster called Foghorn Leghorn.

  10. I don't think I would have recognized Sophia Loren from the mural. I visited Livorno many years ago; sadly I don't have many memories of my visit and no photographs. It was before the days of digital cameras.

  11. I love Toscana, but I've never been to Livorno. I like the name Livorno much better than Leghorn.
Inflation in my country is high as well. We pay a lot of money for gas , much more than the average price in the rest of the country. But lemons - thankfully I get them for free from my neighbors who have lemon trees in their gardens and share their harvest with their neighbors.
