Shots fired at an Italian convoy in Lebanon.

Last week warning shots were fired by Israel's sodiers at an Italian convoy of Italian peacekeepers in South Lebanon. The attack caused no injuries, but this allows the opportunity to suspend defence cooperation deal with Tel Aviv.

Consequently, the good news is that yesterday the Italian prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, said that the government has decided to suspend its defence agreement with Israel.

It seems the Italian Policy-makers are listening Italian civil society's willingness to end the Italian support and being part of the Israel's genocide in Palestine.

The building in the above photo is the seat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and it is not located in Rome's historic centre. It was built in the 1930s and marked an important stage in Italy's achitectural and urban debate. Nowadays the monumental style of the building has also been perfect for hosting a collection of artworks.

Have a lovely Wednedsay ☀

  1. Giorgio, I've heard about this story.
Giorgio, tell me, what's being said in Italy about Trump's recent follies and his words about Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni?

    1. Hello Anna,
Giorgia Meloni made a mistake, as since January 2025 she has praised Trump, defended him, even suggested him for a Nobel Prize.
Nowadays Trump says our prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, lacks courage over US-Israel war on Iran. As it is known, she refused to let the US use an Italian naval airbase and sided with the Pope on the war.

In reality, our prime minister comes up with an excuse to not join US-Israel war on Iran, as she is afraid she would lose votes. Italian people know that US-Israel war on Iran is completely illegal, as there isn't any provocation by Iran. In addition, Italian electors heard that the Spanish government explicitly refused to allow the United States to use Spain's bases at Rota (Cádiz) and Morón de la Frontera (Seville) for military operations against Iran.
Now we, Italians, are afraid the US make a retaliation against Spain and Italy, but not in terms of customs tariffs or something like that. We are afraid they could make something worse. Don't forget there are still 10,000 US soldiers and seven US military bases Italy ... against our will. And 1,061 tons of Italy's gold reserve are still stored in the voults of the Federal Reserve in New York.

In the late 1970s Italian prime minister, Aldo Moro, was behind the "Historic Compromise," which was aimed at enhancing Italian democracy but seen as a threat to the established Yalta cold war order.
To sum up, Aldo Moro was kidnapped and killed, and it's easy to understand who did that. It's important to mention that the US secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, is alleged to have told Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro that he would "pay dearly" for his political strategy of bringing the Italian Communist Party into the government. This is based on testimonies from 1970s.

Thank you for making such interesting question, Anna.
      Greetings,
      G.

    2. Hi Giorgio.
My friend, thank you for your detailed answer to my question.
Giorgio, I'll tell you something interesting: yesterday in Italy, something impossible happened in Poland – mission impossible in Poland! This is in Poland mission impossible! What do I mean? Elly Schlein, a representative of the opposition, leader of the main opposition party – defended Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Giorgio, you wrote about Prime Minister Aldo Moro. Giorgio, I'll tell you that my dad remembers the kidnapping of Aldo Moro and the search for him. He remembers it well because on March 25, 1978, he was flying to the USA. My dad had a connecting flight in Frankfurt. My dad remembers that day as a great surprise because he had never seen and had no idea how searches for high-ranking figures – in this case, Prime Minister Aldo Moro – were conducted. My dad was shocked by the sight of armed troops and police with dogs patrolling Frankfurt Airport.
Giorgio, you mentioned Henry Kissinger. Kissinger, as US National Security Advisor and Secretary of State (1969–1975), played a very important role (we're talking about a controversial role, to say the least) in the Vietnam War. Kissinger sought "peace with honor," implementing a policy of "Vietnamization." What was that? He was talking about the withdrawal of US troops while reinforcing the South Vietnamese army and conducting secret, massive bombing raids on Cambodia and Laos. Shocking! Kissinger received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 "for his contribution to the negotiations during the Vietnam War." In 1972, he was named Time magazine's Person of the Year.

    3. Anna, I appreciate you sharing such historic information about Aldo Moro, Henry Kissinger and secret bombing of Laos.
As your father remember, they kidnapped and killed our prime minister. Nowadays they do the same as we saw early this years in Venezuela.
You also mentioned Laos, which in the 1960s Laos was probably the poorest country in the world. As soon as a low social revolution began to develop there, Washington subjected that country to a murderous secret bombing. This attack had nothing to do with the war the US was waging in South Vietnam.
With regards to Kissinger, he clearly said that the Washington wants a global system subordinated to the needs of US investors. According to Kissinger, in the early 1970 Chile was a "virus" that would infect the Southern part of the American continent with effect all the way to Italy. Chile president Allende was killed (your father would remember this point).

      Thank you, Anna.

    4. Hi Giorgio,
Giorgio, speaking of Kissinger: A Nobel Peace Prize for this man – in my opinion, that's one of the most embarrassing things about the Nobel Peace Prize!
Giorgio, my good friend, I send you greetings! I wish you a pleasant Friday afternoon and evening and a wonderful weekend!
      P.S.
Giorgio, speaking of current events – Medvedev's threats: Tarnów and my city are 20 kilometers apart.

  4. It's a crime to shoot at peacekeepers. When the Armenian government renounced Nagorno-Karabakh (over which they had been constantly at war with Azerbaijan), Russian troops evacuated the Armenian population from that territory, but our peacekeepers were killed. I haven't known since that time who was to blame. Was it Armenia or Azerbaijan?

Thanks for your comment, Irina. I didn't know Russian troops were killed in the Armenian territory.

  6. Thank goodness no one was killed in the peace trip.
We just don't know what is going to happen next as #47 is so unpredictable. Is he fit for office, it's a doubt in my mind at times.

  8. Every country who goes against the "thing" in the white house needs to be on alert. Here he is putting billions into military. A draft will begin in Dec. Well it's actually happening now. The "thing" wants auto manufacturers to make military weapons. The "thing" is seeking $1.5 trillion in total defense funding here. While taking away from SNAP ( a food security for low income, and medical. $186 billion in reductions to SNAP over 10 years and roughly $1.15 trillion in federal health spending cuts, including Medicaid, through 2026. Medicaid is health care for low income. I too hope all of the countries that have gone against the US will hold fast and be prepared. The "thing" is NOT joking he wants WW3.

    1. I agree on this point, Nicole. Actually, he wants to increase instability, as his billionaires friends have invested in weapons and missiles (Raytheon, Lockeed, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, etc. ...). In my opinion there is still a WW but only in the northern hemisphere: Russia, Iran, North Korea, Belarus, China, Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, etc. on the one side, and US, Israel, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, etc. on the other side.
I hope South Europe states will continue to be neutral.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Nicole.
      Greetings,
      G.
