The house of terror

As soon as tourists and visitors get into the House of terror in Budapest there is a strong initial attraction to them: their sight is immediately attracted by an old Soviet tank.
Located at Andrassi utca 60, the House of terror is a museum now, but the historic building was witness to two shameful and tragic periods in Hungary's 20th century history. Between 1945 and 1956, in peacetime, 487 peole were executed on political grounds. After the 1956 Revolution, nearly 230 freedom fighters were executed. The minimum age at which people could be sentenced to death was lowered to sixteen.

Now transformed into a museum, the building is a monument to the victims, due to the fact that many died there during the most unimaginable and horrific interrogation lasting for weeks. Other received long prison sentences.
After the fall of  communism in 1989-1990, the hanging judges and prosecutors who had served the communist regime were not held to account. They were not punished, but the museum serves as a means to denunce many of them.

This post today lacks of pictures as visitors were not allowed to take photos inside the House of Terror Museum. I managed to take only two photos of the Soviet tank. The third photo shows Szabadság híd in Hungarian translates into Freedom bridge in English. It's a majestic bridge in Budapest, that crosses the Danube river, connecting the two sides of the Hungarian capital.

Have a nice weekend ☀

Orban vs. Soros

I liked this book. Same people may be interested in how a Hungarian billionaire, George Soros, who had been able to take an US party into private ownership and enter through the American judicial system, has been defeated in Central Europe. He has become the symbol of external imposition of globalist, imperialist, and repressive initiatives. Soros has received a lot of money to carry out subversive activities in East Europe, while keeping control of Brussels' EU institutions.

The author of this book, the political philosopher Gabor G. Fodor, explains how what is free will cost the most.

Have a nice weekend 🍒☀⛵

Pigeons on a sunny morning.

On a sunny morning last month I saw a group of pigeons gathering in Budapest's urban environment.

I thought that flocking helps them to evade predators.

I took the picture of the pigeons in Ferencvaros, a Budapest neighborhood located close to the Danube river.

Cute small birds

There were many small cute birds inside the terminal building of Budapest international airport.

Some trees were placed inside the passengers hall at the Budapest international airport, thanks to a strock of genius of Zoltán Tima, the architect who designed the SkyCourt (that's the name of that steel, glass and concrete building).
I noticed those trees were giving shelter to small birds, which were fed by the crumbs left by travellers.

I have never seen before small birds living indoor with human beings.

Have a nice 2° weekend of May

Szechenyi baths

As request by our blogging friend Andrea, I show two pictures of Budapest Szecheny thermal baths, which I visited from the 25th to the 30th of April. Unfortunately, the main part of the outdoor pools was closed for maintenance (right side of the above photo).

I spent four days in Budapest. Public Transport is perfect in the Hungarian capital and people are kind. Many of them speak English well.

Hungary is one of the European countries which has not yet lost its sovereignity, despite being member of both NATO and EU.

I have been to the Danube river five times in five different countries. I firstly saw the Danube river in Vienna and Bratislava (Austria and Slovakia). A few years later I saw the same river in Vidin and Calafat (Bulgaria and Romania), as I went there for job. And last month I saw the Danube in Budapest (Hungary).

I recommend to visit this country and its pleasant capital located on the Danube river.
