Many people in the Northern part of my country are still dealing with the effects caused by the floods. The Prime Minister declared yesterday a state of emergency after devastating floods.
The picture below has been sent by a friend of mine, Stefano. It shows the small village of Latera, located in the hills in Central Italy. This picture reminds me that towns and villages located in the hills can't be affected by flooding.
The problem is that all urban areas, located close to rivers, do not allow rain water to penetrate the soil. Consequently, driveways, streets, sidewalks, rooftops, and other surfaces collect stormwater and channel it into waterways. On the contrary, trees and other vegetation break the momentum of rain.
Meanwhile, this Summer is going to an end, as the Autumnal equinox occurs from September 21st to 24th. During this period of the years daylight and dark hours are equal. This year the autumnal equinox occurs precisely on the 22nd September.
I hope you'll have a nice Autumn 🍂 🍁🌰🍇
Buon autunno amico Giorgio!
ReplyDeleteSame to you, dear friend :-)
Delete...the flooding has been in the news here, take care and be safe.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your support, Tom.
DeleteHave a nice Sunday!
Hi Giorgio!
ReplyDeleteMy friend, I heard in the media about the flooding in Italy. I sympathize very much... I pray, today, while I was in church too, for the flood victims in Poland, Italy and other countries.
The flood is a great tragedy. Now we have autumn, it will soon be winter, I sympathize very much with the flood victims...
Thanks again for your kind support, my dear friend.
DeleteWe have so much rain in Scotland there is always flooding, but not as bad as I've seen in Europe just now. We live quite high up in the valley so don't get much flooding from rain. I am not sure why this year has been so bad for raining here, I think we skipped summer!
ReplyDeleteAll the best for Autumn Giorgio. I am looking forward to getting some great colourful photos. Autumn presents us with such wonderful colours I think :-D
You are right, Ananka, as Autumn is a haven for photographers.
DeleteEine traumhaft schöne Gegend. LG Romy
ReplyDeleteThank you for the appreciation and your kind words, Romy.
DeleteHope you'll have a nice new week ☀
ReplyDeleteA catastrophe.
May the water recede soon.
I wish you a nice start to autumn
I appreciate your kind words. Thanks for that!
DeleteTremendo lo de las inundaciones.Una parte de España también las está sufriendo. Buen otoño.
ReplyDeleteGracias por tu visita.Me llevo tu enlace
Un abrazo.
I didn't know Spain was also hit by floods.
DeleteEven here in the UK some parts have experienced flooding earlier today and we have weather warnings for more rain to come!
ReplyDeleteI always think the Autumn season is a nice one, but I hope the weather will improve for people to enjoy it safely outside.
Wishing you a good week ahead.
All the best Jan

I really like autumn too!
DeleteEs una pena lo de las inundaciones. Te mando un beso
ReplyDeleteSame to you :-)
DeleteWhat a powerful reminder of how nature can affect our lives!
ReplyDeleteI’m really feeling for everyone dealing with the floods.
The photo from Stefano is beautiful—hilltop villages like Latera are definitely safer from flooding.
It’s so true that having more trees and greenery helps with heavy rains.
Hope you have a great fall season ahead!
That's true, Veronica: towns and villages surrounded by forests and trees are safer from flooding.
DeleteHow can we forget that a river is the dynamic part of the territory? The ancient Greeks didn't build their homes near rivers and lakes. And, most importantly, they didn't destroy forests and hectares of woodland.
We have to respect nature!
I am sorry that Italian people often suffer from flooding.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, every year there are floods in Northern Italy.
DeleteThanks for your support, Irina.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk has recently said that Putin, Russia and beavers are to blame for the floods in Poland.
ReplyDeleteThis made me laugh!
DeleteLas inundaciones son catastrofes, alguna veces evitables, pues no tenemos en cuenta dinde edificamos
ReplyDeleteLas fotos construidas en las alturas además de preciosas som ,iestra de ello

Exactly. We take everything for granted!
DeleteKisses :-)
I'm so sad, things never change
ReplyDeleteTrue.
DeleteTe mando un beso y te deseo un buen fin de semana.
ReplyDeleteSame to you.
DeleteHi Giorgio! I want to invite you to check out my new post "Important Events of September".
ReplyDeleteOkay, Irina. I'll see it soon. Thanks :-)
DeleteThe human population of the world continue to expand without restraint, and more land is paved over and built on. Floods are becoming more severe, more frequent and the ground is unable to handle the water. We have only to look in the mirror to see the cause of the problem.
ReplyDeleteI agree on this!
DeleteBuona settimana!
ReplyDeleteThanks, same to you :-)
