Hegemonic behaviour

On the 3rd of January, 2026, Venezuela president Maduro was removed from power and replaced by a regime compliant to United States demands.

Nobody asks why Chinese or Russian warships weren't there, close to the numerous Venezuela's Caribbean island and archipelagos. If Russians were to kidnap Moldova's president, United States soldiers, tanks and missiles would be deployed close to the Moldovan border in less than 24 hours. A 5th grade boy/girl would understand this point.

Otherwise, it is also likely that Russia traded Venezuela to get more, from the president of the United States, at the Ukraine-Russia negotiating table. But we have no evidence about such secret agreement between Washington and Moscow.

  1. Hi Giorgio,
I read your words carefully. I'll also post about the recent events in Venezuela.
What happened was somewhat of a precedent, but I have to mention certain issues. In my opinion, the real reason for Maduro's capture is irrelevant. Maduro wasn't president—he was a usurper. The elections (specifically, their results) were rigged. Maduro was/is a dictator. Maduro is a criminal, and so is his wife. Drugs are a damn mess, and even 1 per mille less is good news. In my opinion, anyone (anyone!!!) involved in the drug trade should be punished with the harshest, most severe punishment! Russia's reaction and criticism of Moscow? Pathetic!!! Hypocrisy!!! He was stirring the pot. Putin should get the hell out of Ukraine! Why did he want to steal the election in Moldova, for example?! Moldova is a sovereign, independent state!
Giorgio, my friend, I wish you a joyful Epiphany!

    1. Anna, Moldova is a sovereign, independent state, as you mentioned. That's right. Consequently, Venezuela must be sovereign and independent as well. International law should protect a state's right to manage its own government and people without outside interference. This means double standard, once again.
The fact that Venezuela is involved in the drug trade made me laugh, due to the fact that Colombia has been doing the same since long time. But Washington's elite and billionaires are not interested in kidnapping Colombia's president, because that country is not one of the main oil producers.
China is the major buyer of crude oil from Venezuela, but that trade now looks in jeopardy after Nicolas Maduro had been overthrown. Now Washington will rule Venezuela's natural resources through a puppet. The problem is that China and Russia could do the same towards their neighboring countries, considering this dangerous precedent.

Anna, enjoy the rest of the Epyphany.

  2. Hi Giorgio, I've been waiting to read your views on this. As I watch the "thing" in the white house continue to use his power in the most evil ways, here in the states and other countries, it shows me more that he will do everything to become the dictator of the world. This was strictly to obtain Venezuela's oil and other minerals. It has nothing to do with drugs or corruption, because the "thing" is corrupt and that doesn't bother him. He wants world power. Now that he has seen how easy it was to kidnap Maduro he will go after Greenland and any other country he feels will benefit HIM. Saying that he will run Venezuela until a regime like his is in place strikes a dread in me for what's coming next. It the "thing" can take over a country, other dictators will do the same.

    1. Exactly, Nicole. That's a dangerous precedent, as other world powers will do the same.
      Thanks for your interesting comment.

  4. Russia has been fighting Nazism for four years now, and there's no end to this war. The US and 50 European countries are against Russia. Why should we send our troops to Latin America?
I wonder why Italy NEVER helps ANYONE.

    1. According to the United Nations, Europe consists of 44 recognized countries. Many of them, such as Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia and others disagree on sending money and weapons to Kiev and they are not against Russia.

Since 2022 Italy has been helping Libya, Tunisia and Albania.
Not to mention that since 2022 Italy has also been helping Ukraine (sorry to hear you don't know this information) ... although I disagree on this, as Ukraine, US & UK made a provocation.

With regards to Russia, Maduro and Putin signed a cooperation agreement in May 2025. But on the 3rd January, 2026, Moscow stood back and watched as Washington forcibly brought Maduro and his wife to the United States.
Four days after the kidnapping of the Venezuelan president, Putin remained silent. Maduro was one of the few heads of state who supported Russia in February 2022.
You ask why Russia have to help Venezuela, but maybe you don't know that Moscow had already sent two Tu-160 strategic bombers to Venezuela.

  5. Scary to see how easily power can be shifted like this.
What’s stopping it from happening elsewhere?

  6. If that man really wants it or that, he takes it regardless. It's a worry for those countries that he interferes with.

    1. That's true, Margaret. I'm afraid the United States created a dangerous precedent on the 3rd January, 2026. If other countries were to kidnap a president of state, Washington couldn't say nothing. For example, Russia could kidnap Moldova president and China could kidnap Taiwan president.

With regards to Washington hegemonic thinking, who will be the next one❓ Which president will be kidnapped next ❓
Cuba was among the countries that were recently verbally attacked by Trump. Not to mention of Greenland, which is an autonomous territory in the Kingdom of Denmark and is exceptionally rich in natural resources.
It not a coincidence the fact that Venezuela is endowed with significant natural resources 🤨

    1. Yes, Ananka, maybe there is a secret agreement that we don't know.
In May 2025 Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro went to Russia on an official visit. Four months later, in August 2025, President Donald Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska ... the main topic of discussion wasn't the Russo-Ukrainian war.
In early January 2026, after Venezuelan President had been dragged out of his bedroom by an United States commandos, Putin refrained from saying anything at all. Before kidnapping Maduro, US military forces struck the Buk-2MA air defence systems and radars Moscow supplied to Venezuela and installed at seaports and airports as part of their “strategic alliance”.

According to Aljazeera journalist, Mansur Mirovalev, now Russia has "carte blanche in Ukraine and the former Soviet Union, including energy-rich Central Asia".
