In the 3rd century BC Chinese Emperor Qin Shi Huanh connected the existing walls into a single defense system. The construction of the Great Wall of China continued over 2,000 years, and the best-preserved section were built during the Ming Dynasty.
According to a Swiss-based initiative, the New7Wonders Foundation, the Great wall of China is one of the seven wonders of the world.
I am pleased to hear the Colosseum in Rome, Italy, is also recognized as one of the seven wonders of the world.
The pictures of the Great Wall of China were taken this month by my daughters, who are still there in East Asia.
Regarding the Colosseum, I took the picture in 2024 while we were having dinner in a Rome's restaurant.

ReplyDeleteMy good friend, when I was thinking about tourism, I came to the conclusion that, unfortunately, it's a human impossibility to visit the entire world. Where did I get these thoughts? Because we wouldn't be able to stand on every meter of the earth... In my opinion, even someone who has visited every country in the world several times can't say they've seen the whole world :(

I have seen amazing photo or the pictures of the Great Wall of China were takenby your daughters, who like you said are still there in East Asia.

ReplyDeleteThe Great Wall of China is pretty impressive, originally built against the invaders from Mongolia. I have never been there and I'm quite torn about traveling to the People's Republic of China. I lived in Taiwan back in 1983 as a student (I have a masters in Chinese Studies) when it was still under martial law. I would hate to see the island being invaded by the Chinese from the mainland.
ReplyDeleteHello Carola, I'm quite torn too about going to China. My daughters say that they, Chinese people, are not as kind as expected. On the other hand, a Chinese doctor helped them while they were hiking, as an Italian friend of them was experiencing a drop in blood sugar. Everything went well.
DeleteThey discovered a wonderful environment. And after my daughters had visited the Great Wall of China, they went to the rice paddies in southern China. They also went close to the Mongolian border.
Regarding Taiwan, China's government claims that Taiwan is a province of the People's Republic of China. Actually, Taiwan is not widely recognized as a sovereign country because most of the world chooses to have official diplomatic ties with Beijing instead. I disagree with the U.S. administration that announced a proposed weapons package valued at roughly $11 billion, featuring rocket launchers, self-propelled howitzers, and advanced missiles.
