If Western governments were to continue to fund Ukraine and supply it with weapons and missiles, EU people would grow tired of the economic cost of war in East Europe.
According to Washington Post, the USA government is privately pushing Ukraine to show openness to negotiate with Russia, due to the fact that war takes a toll on world economy. As mentioned by the USA State Department spokeperson, "if Russia is ready for negotiation, it should stop its bombs and missiles and withdraw its forces from Ukraine".
But I don't understand why the USA didn't say that six months ago. That's an outright turnaround in the USA's policy, as American government had been claiming for months that it would support Ukraine for as long as the war goes on. This is the real and live example why USA's political friendship is sometimes fatal. Poor Ukrainian people have fallen in the same trap as we already saw with regards to Yemen, Syria, Libya, etc.
...meaningful negotiations can only take place if both sides are prepared to negotiate.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely true! That's the required first stage of the negotiating process.
DeleteConcordo con Tom!
ReplyDeleteE' proprio come dite voi: la piena volontà delle parti è un passaggio fondamentale per iniziare un percorso negoziale significativo.
DeleteIt is humanity and history repeating itself again and again
ReplyDeleteTrue! I'm concerned as I see history repeating itself.
DeleteHi Giorgio! Maybe the US is thinking about China at this point and China will be the priority?
ReplyDeleteGiorgio I salute you and I wish you a good Friday! :)
That's an interesting point of view, Anna! As alternative, they (Americans) had been interested in East Europe war until last month. They have already sold all weapons, anti-missile systems and military equipments, and now they aren't interested in a neverending war in East Europe.
DeleteWe have to bear in mind that USA & UK are the two top military weapons Exporters. Consequently, if USA & UK were to agree on a negotiation agreement between the two belligerents, this would mean that their multinational companies, which are involved in weapons production, have reached their goals in terms of business. And now, as you mentioned, the new weapon race could be triggered in East Asia.
Thank you for sharing your interestng point of view, Anna :-)
Hi Giorgio! In recent days, it has been increasingly reported in the media that the U.S. is pushing for Ukraine's concessions in the war with Russia and talks. I, being Polish, of course would like Russia to be weakened the most. Unfortunately, I can not forget the wrong done to Poland by Moscow. I will not forget the occupation of Poland for half a century after the WW2 (I don’t mention the history before 1939). Unfortunately, later people from the previous system in Poland weren’t really held accountable and they influence politics all the time. I wrote about this on my blog yesterday.
DeleteI didn't mention the topic of occupation of Poland in my comment, as I already know the history of East Europe countries. As you know, the aim of the 1945 Yalta conference was to shape a postwar peace with the cold war dividing the European continent. Consequently, after the WWll ended, a communist government was installed in Poland. And, most importantly, many people in Poland felt betrayed by their wartime allies (USA & UK). Many Polish soldiers refused to return to Poland.
DeleteDear Anna, your blog is written in Polish language, which I don't know ... and I don't think that Microsoft Translator is as accurate as it should.
Enjoy the rest of this Sunday, Anna :-)
Russia is always ready for negotiations. The negotiations were supposed to take place in the spring, but Zelensky deceived us. We moved away from Kyiv, Odessa, and they started shooting at our backs.
ReplyDeleteBefore starting negotiations, NATO needs to stop bringing weapons to Ukraine. Russia needs to negotiate not with Zelensky, but with the United States. We are at war with NATO on the territory of Ukraine. Because the Ukrainian president was so "kind" that he sold the territory of his country and his people to NATO as cannon fodder.
If Zelensky would have agreed to talk before then so many lives could have been saved. But he doesn't care about human lives, due to the fact that he is a outright USA & UK's puppet.
DeleteUSA & UK (which means NATO) will negotiate with Russia through their puppet, Zelensky.
Giorgio, I completely agree with you. It is useless to talk with Zelensky. If the US and UK allow him, only then will he sit down at the negotiating table with Putin.
DeleteThat's true, Irina. Unfortunately, before Zelensky won the Presidential Ukraine's election by more than 70%, he had already sold his country to USA & UK.
DeleteUSA & UK will choose the terms of the negotiating agreement. As a consequence, he will simply sit at the negotiating table as a puppet.
Absolutely true, USA promise eternal help and "Love" and then the minute after change their opinion and leave you alone. Sometimes they do even worse, abandoning and leaving you in the hands of the enemy you have fought and opposed for months. See for example the Afghan people with the Taliban, or the Kurdish people, especially the women, who after having given a huge and decisive contribution to defeating ISIS have seen themselves stabbed in the back by the Americans and in fact almost sold, I am referring to the Kurds in Turkey and neighboring areas with it, to Erdogan.
ReplyDeleteExactly, Daniele! A great number of ordinary people are finally starting to doubt on USA's reliability.
Deletemore complicated if everyone feels right ..
ReplyDelete# War must be stop ..yes, we need peace
I agree on this, my friend!
DeleteGiorgio I’m sending you the latest news from Poland in connection with the war in Ukraine - this is unofficial information - Russian missiles have reached Poland, 2 people are dead!!!
ReplyDeleteI have heard there are unconfirmed reports that Russian missiles hit Poland's village of Przewodow near the border with Ukraine. But the news of Moscow’s missiles landing in Poland needs confimation.
DeleteLooking forward to hearing other information. Thank you, Anna!
... if the Russian attack on the Polish territory were confirmed, It would represent the first time a Russian missile has landed in a country other than Ukraine since the war in East Europe began in late February.
DeleteIn the US we just had elections and the republicans won the house. They have NEVER wanted to support Ukraine so now they will push to negotiate. Anther thing is, we as citizens around the world have no idea what is taking place in governments. We only know what the news tells us. We are all in the dark and we all pay the price.
ReplyDeleteThat's true, Nicole! Media & news don't tell us what really policy-makers are going to do.
