On November 24 the UN climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, concluded with a not binding agreement to protect lives and livelihoods from the worsening impact of climate change. Unfortunately, the latter term is not interchangeable with term "global warming", although there are evidence that since 1800s human activities have been the main driver of the heating of earth's surface.
Climatic variations can be regarded as the main cause of desertification. This factor is increasingly turning our world's drylands into deserts.
Africa is the driest of the world continents with 45% of its landmass falling into dry mass.
I think humans in the last 250 years or so have really ruined the planet. Do people not realise this is our HOME! It is the only one we have. It isn't like we can move to another planet that can sustain life like Earth. It saddens me, it really does.
ReplyDeleteIs your daughter enjoying her holiday? Her photos are lovely, I like the 2 camels :-D
True! Since early 1800s humans have been burning fossil fuels, which release large amounts of carbon dioxide into the air.
DeleteThe earth was not given to us by our parents, it was loaned to us by our children (Native American quote).
My daughter is enoying her holiday in the Eastern Morocco. She will come back in Italy this week.
...I wonder if leaders will ever understand the importance of global warming?
ReplyDeleteThey pretend to understand it.
DeleteWars and a total disregard for nature. I can't see any future
ReplyDeleteHigher levels of perceived responsibility to future generations is associated with greater motivation to act on climate change
DeleteIt's so sad!
ReplyDeleteHi Giorgio,
ReplyDeleteGiorgio, I, speaking of COP conferences, in my opinion this is a meeting of a bunch of hypocrites. A Sabbath of witches.
I, about the COP conferences, have written several texts.
Giorgio, I salute you!
Exactly, Anna! COP 29 conference was held in a Azerbaijan, where two third of the country's government earnings comes from gas and oil export. This shows that there isn't any responsibility to protect the environment on behalf of future generations.

ReplyDeleteThe photos are beautiful.
When will everything possible be done to protect the environment?
We should think more about the future of future generations. :)
Wish you a very nice evening
Completely agree on respecting posterity, as humanity is already experiencing negative consequences of climate change.
DeleteThank you to your daughter Laura for these very nice photographs.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan

Thank you for the appreciation, Jan. I'll publish other Laura's photos of North Africa as soon as she comes back to Italy.
DeleteGiorgio, yesterday I tried several times to publish my comment on your blog, but all my comments went to SPAM. Please find them.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you couldn't publish your comment on my blog. I'll try to find them.
DeleteThese conferences are a waste of time and fossil fuel to get there.
ReplyDeleteTrue. In addition the COP 29 conference was held under the long shadow cast by the re-election of Donald Trump ... he already pulled the US out of the Paris Agreement to halt global heating.
DeleteThe environnement is where we live, it's more important than we can imagine.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree on this point!
DeleteSuch an important post! Laura’s photos really bring the impact of desertification to life. It’s scary to think how much human activity has driven these changes since the 1800s. Thanks for sharing this and raising awareness, Giorgio.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your appreciation about this hot topic, Veronica! If we, human beings, were not to change something in terms of fossil fuel consumption, vegetation in arid and semi-arid lands would decrease and eventually it would disappear.
DeleteThank you for sharing your point of view about both desertification and my daughter's photos :-)
We push for change and refuse to despair!
ReplyDeleteRight! It is not too late.
