Since the beginning of this winter many young people have been gathering in the historic centre of the town, every Friday and Saturday, on the night. As usual people meet to wind down, socialise, and sip away on cheap drinks. Consequently, historic centre's citizens call to protest against unchecked wild movida and the opening of new fast food shops in the old medieval squares and alleys.
In the historic centre of many Italian towns, such as Turin, Rome, and Milan, the coexistence between nightlife and the rest's expectations of residents represents a very big issue to deal with.
The goods new is that on Sunday, in the early morning, the same square shown in the above photo was not polluted with rubbish, bottles and other waste. It was probably cleaned by the people who run fast food shops, coffees, and wine shops.
Some people who love hanging out their underwear clothes live in the historic part of the town :-) LOL
Have a nice month of March!
..Giorgio, I wish you a Marvelous March.
ReplyDeleteSame to you. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteIt's really amazing what the place looks like the next morning. I think it's nice that everything has been put away. A thank you goes out to unknown. :)
I wish you a wonderful evening
It seems, fast food and wine shops owners are interested in keeping the clean!
DeleteI very much dislike winter. Great luck that in Poland this year there was little snow (in my region on the fingers of two hands I will count how many days of snow lay) and few very cold days and nights. For me, winter was too much anyway! I would like only spring and summer! Fortunately, the days are apparently longer now. I, unfortunately, am not in a good mood today, as it's rainy and without my beloved sunshine :(
ReplyDeleteGiorgio, I wish you a nice Saturday evening and a good Sunday!
Winter is rainy here too. I Hope you'll enjoy a sunny morning soon.
DeleteHaha I had to laugh at the underwear! That is a lovely little bit. Glad it was free of people at that time and free of litter. This is a huge problem in Scotland...littering. It annoys me and the youth of today don't care about nature or the cities. It is good to see people socialising and enjoying themselves though, but tidy up!
ReplyDeleteIt is scary to think we are in March, this has been too quick a year certainly for me!
I saw many young people on the night in Scotland, and Edinburgh's alleys and their beautiful cobblestones were so clean. Maybe Glasgow is a little different, as it is bigger than Edinburgh.
DeleteGlad to hear you enjoyed my photo of underwears. I remember those underwears were not dripping down while people walked close to the window :-) LOL
In the last few years the litter problem is much worse and any time we've been to Edinburgh the streets are full of it. It really is sad. My daughter has picked up my dislike of littering, it is something I talk to her a lot about when we are out.
DeleteOver here there is a lot of "fly tipping". It is when people dump their rubbish in places they shouldn't....wildlife spots, housing estates and such. You go for a walk in nature and people have dumped furniture and beds and all sorts of rubbish. BUT Scotland's approach to waste management is terrible really so something needs to be done and I am forever complaining to the local authority. One time drunk people smashed glass bottles in a kids play park and I complained they actually replied saying they cleaned it and right enough they did because I went back to check! Sadly people over here have no respect for nature :-(
Dear Ananka, I suppose Scotland and England weren't like that a few decades ago. Scottish people didn't use to throw their waste in the forest or along the streets. Maybe you are talking about a disgusting social phoemenon related to unchecked mass immigration.
DeleteUnfortunately, in Italy we have been seeing the same problem since early 2000s, when our politicy-makers agreed on mass immigration. Since then both legal and illegal immigrants, who come from other continents, haven't been respecting our rules on recycling and waste disposal. They enjoy to throw garbage along the street. But the bigger problem is that they also throw dangerous waste in natural environment, because most of them carry out business activities in the black market. As a result, they cannot regularly deliver their waste, produced daily, to the waste disposal centers or recycling facilities, as they cannot leave a trace of their work activity that does not comply with the law.
The good news is that our prime minister, Mrs. Giorgia Meloni, is trying to keep irregular migrants away from Italy (and consequently away from EU). In addition to this, it is not fair to steal human resources from North Africa or Middle East. Developed countries must not steal human resources from developing countries.
We have this problem in many cities in Spain, but cleaning is not usually so fast...
ReplyDeleteThe photo of the clothesline is great.
On the one hand, local administrations have to clean quickly. On the other hand, Young people who enjoy the pedestrian areas of the medieval part of the town must not throw their waste away.
DeleteThank you for the appreciation, Fernando!
Hope these underwears are not dripping down to pedestrians
ReplyDeleteI hope so :-)
DeleteWishing you a happy new month of March ...
ReplyDeleteMy good wishes.
All the best Jan

Thanks, Jan! I hope March will be not as rainy as the previous month :-)
DeleteBuon inizio di marzo!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Irina :-)
DeleteTe deseo un buen mes. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteSame to you :-)
DeleteWell those socializing and so on cleaned up their mess, good on them.
ReplyDeleteWe are not permitted to drink alcohol of any kind or type in our streets and no one does.
The undies on the clothesline, well that is another story for me as I have never seen it in person, only in photos as we put ours on a clothesline in our back yards and for those who don't have one use the dryer.
Great to hear in your country it is not permitted to drink alcohol of any kind in square, streets and alleys of the urban environment.
DeleteIf some people hadn't a backyard, they would put their clothes on the rooftop, not on window :-) LOL
Have a nice new week :-)
That's an interesting point, Luis, as it is firstly noise pollution. Secondly, those people sometimes throw their waste along the old alleys, such as bottles, glasses, food packaging, etc.
DeleteThanks for sharing your point of view :-)
Wow.... that line up of the underwear is so perfect.
ReplyDeleteTrue :-)
DeleteJust being crowds like that would drive me bonkers. I’d rather sit quietly and admire the clean underwear!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, as I don't like crowded places.
DeleteIt’s always tricky to balance the vibrancy of nightlife with the needs of the local residents, especially in such historic areas. It’s great to hear that the businesses are helping to keep the square clean, but I can understand the concerns of the citizens who are impacted by noise and waste. Hopefully, there can be a healthy compromise where everyone can enjoy the beauty of the area, and the locals can have some peace too!
ReplyDeleteAlso, your last comment made me chuckle—sometimes it’s the little things that give a place its character, right?
Hi, wishing you a great Wednesday: I just shared a new post: https://www.melodyjacob.com/2025/03/top-vitamins-and-supplements-for-healthy-skin-hair.html
Balancing nightlife and residents’ needs in historic areas is always tricky. It’s good that the square was cleaned up, but I can see why locals worry about the growing movida and fast food spots. Hopefully, a fair solution can be found.
ReplyDeleteSmiling at the last photo! 😊
