Inflaction hits Christmas dinner.

In late November many Mayors began to install Christmas decoretions along the pedestrian spaces. This year They began too early. But while people enjoy Christmas lights outdoors, food inflaction hits Christmas dinner. Actually, fruits, turkeys and fishes' prices have been rising by 45% since the first week of  December.

According to Daily Mirror, food prices have been raising quicker than inflaction.

Meanwhile, on the ground in Ukraine the war still goes on, unfortunately. After the 2022 Qatar World Cup had been played, the mainstrean media quickly began to speak about the Ukraine-Russia war once again. Actually, we didn't hear such news from 20 November to 18 December, and since  19 December we have been hearing bad news about Moldova's people who fear new Russian offensive, Kyiv under attack and German government that freeze Russian assets worth more than $ 5 billion. It seems that while the 2022 Qatar World Cup was holding in Doha, media networks were not interested in spreading news about the Ukrainian war. I only heard something about the ongoing battle in the outskirts of Bakhmut.

The good news is that volunteers are sending many gifts to Ukrainians boys and girls. In addition, with regards to Christmas holiday, I am so happy to hear Italians will not throw food and will not buy expensive gifts. But EU countries' governments have to shield people from the worst effects of surging prices related to the rising cost of imported natural gas.

  1. Inflation is killing everyone's livelihood. Media will broadcast what people are interested. Now there is nothing else to report

    1. True! Policy-makers have to shield people from the worst effects of surging prices.

Media should report the killing of Palestinian civilians in the occupied West Bank. But the don't do this! While the 2022 Qatar World Cup had been holding, Israeli soldiers killed some civilians in Palestine. But media didn't mention it!

    1. Thank you, Nicole :-) May you have a nice Christmas!

Unfortunately, it seems that people who rule the world (the 0.01%) are so happy so see a neverending war in Ukraine and a neverending epidemic threat.

  4. Hi Giorgio.
    Christmas decorations are great!!!
I speaking of inflation and high prices we in Poland have the same situation....
Fish... Traditional (and my favorite!) carp in many cities (especially the bigger ones) is more expensive than shrimp....

  6. You know, when "Circenses" is on air every war in the world seems to stop but unfortunately it's not true. People involved in wars go on dying even if Messi scores a gol or Livakovic saves a penalty. Panem et circenses, Roman Empire knew how to control masses. What I see now is that we can easily find more circenses (entertainment) and less and less bread (panem)

  7. Prices rising for Christmas: it always happens but I'm worried about a possible consequence due to this war. My fear is that in the face of a temporary and physiological increase, even if not fair, in the prices of certain products at Christmas, this year the increase is greater due to a real and more serious increase in costs to produce these goods. And I fear that this could be a dangerous spiral that could find a dramatic consecration next year.

    1. That's true, Daniele! I'm afraid prices will rise again and again in the next year. As a consequence, unemployment will rise as people will buy less goods, such as clothes, car, household appliances, etc. ... as mentioned in the early 1970s by a British progressive rock band, "supper (dinner) will consist of scrambled eggs".

    1. In the meanwhile, China dispatched a swarm of jet fighters and other military aircraft near Taiwan in a move that Beijing said was a response to provocation by Washington and Taipei.
