Yesterday I went to Rome for job, once again on a sunny morning. During a coffee break I enjoyed a beautiful corner of the town.
I don't know what exactly means the English word "impolite". Maybe it is a synonym of "uncivilized" ... I was sorry to see some impolite people leaving scooters on the sidewalk.
A woman with her baby stroller and a couple of tourists from Scotland could't walk through these scooters. So I had no choice but to collect the scooters and take them on the right side of the street.
I didn't take the picture below in North Africa or Central America. I took it yesterday, after I had finished work. I was walking in a neighborhood close to one of Rome's railway station (Roma Ostiense, that's ist name). This photo shows a market that is completely illegal. People who come from North Africa run that market.
A question comes to mind: why Italian governments continue to tolerate illegal immigration in my country? This is senseless, as those people need our help on their country, directly.
Most illegal immigrants are working (illegally) in the countryside. They are hired to harvest tomatoes and watermelons. But the main problem is that we, Europeans, haven't the right to steal human resources from Nigeria, Cameroun, Senegal, etc. ... we have to help them by creating jobs in their countries.
We get a day off on June 2nd, as Italian Republic Day is public holiday in Italy. This day commemorates 1946 referendum, when Italians decided the form of their government after World War II.
They city gives such a different vibe. The social problems are not so different compared to our end.
ReplyDeleteSorry to see many politicians who don't care.
Delete...the world community needs to do a better job of helping poorer countries provide opportunities for their citizens,
ReplyDeleteDeveloped countries have to create job opportunities in poorest countries. I think that illegal immigration is stricty related to exploitation of both poorest countries and poor people who come from such places.
DeleteHi Giorgio!
ReplyDeleteMy friend I, first of all, send you wishes for Republic Day!
Giorgio, things are going badly in Europe. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it's going to get any better... In my opinion, very important will be the elections to the European Parliament in 2024... Before that, because in the fall, parliamentary elections await my country. On Sunday, the opposition is organizing a big march against the government... I’m curious what the outcome of the elections in Spain will be? Elections in Greece next will also be... I don’t mention the war in Ukraine, because it’s a disaster already.
Hello, Anna!
DeleteThank you for both wishing a great Republic day and sharing your point of view.
I don't think EU elections are imporant. With regards to the 2023 Spanish general election, which will be held on Sunday, 23 June 2023, I think that conservative and far-right parties will win.
On the Ukraine front, I always think that many powers will continue to be interested in a never ending war. I am sorry for Ukrainian people who have fallen in this trap. You will see that mainstream media system will mention less news about the war progressively.
In Italy many powers are interested in illegal immigration, and every day thousands of poor people travel across the Mediterranean sea dangerously. They pay criminal organizations which allow them to come in Italy. And members of the government are not interested in dealing with such problem. Maybe, they don't think that it is a problem. On the contrary, they hypocritically see illegal immigration as an opportunity, considering that we, Europeans, have been experiencing more deaths than births in our populations between 2020 and 2022.
It's always a pleasure sharing opinion with you, Anna :-)
Have a nice and sunny weekend, my friend :-)
Happy Republic Day!
ReplyDeleteThere are many scammers among the illegal immigrants, our tour guide warned us. They give Italy a bad name.
Have a great weekend, Giorgio
Unfortunately, True! The two main railwaystations in Rome and Milan are dangerous because of illegal immigrants.
DeleteThe good news is that in South Italy's towns, such as Naples, illegal immigrants who live close to the railway station don't steal.
Thank you for leaving your interesting comment, Veronica!
Have a nice sunday :-)
the same thought when I was study in Denmark long long time ago: "why don't help the illegal immigrants while they were in their own countries?"
ReplyDelete# Happy Republic Day!
Exactly, Tanza, I agree on this point! Unfortunately, we are talking about trade and exploitation of human beings.
DeleteIf we, Europeans, were to help illegal immigrants while the are in their own countries, they wouldn't need to leave their house and families. Consequently, they wouldn't afford a very dangerous travel across the Mediterranean sea.
In the meanwhile, human traffickers and migrants smugglers become richer.
Very interesting point, Tanza. Thank you for sharing!
Have a nice Sunday!
poor people are easy victims for "human traders"
DeleteTrue!
DeleteIt's so sad!
Happy Republic Day, Giorgio!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Irina!
DeleteFeliz día de la republica. Tienes razón sobre que hay que generar buenos empleos y mejores condiciones de vida para terminar la migración. Te mando un beso y buen fin de semana.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice and sunny Sunday!
DeleteIt's sad when nobody cares about social problems :/
ReplyDeletePeople don't care when it doesn't affect them.
DeleteI don't know, maybe I'm strange, but I don't like this day, Maybe it's because Our Constitution....•..... is for peace but the 2nd of June remembers and seems to celebrate the war, celebrating the Italian Army.
ReplyDeletemmm ... your comment reminds me the first paragraph of article 11 of the Italian Constitution:
Delete"Italy rejects war as an instrument of aggression against the freedom of other peoples and as a means for the settlement of international disputes."
I hope you had Happy Republic Day, Giorgio.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
