I've just got these two old black & white photos, which a friend of mine, Stefano, found through the web. The two aerial photograph, as seen from aircraft, were taken on the 14th of May, 1943 during an aircraft bombing on the port of Civitavecchia, 70 km north from Rome.
Billows of smoke rose as explosions occurred in the Civitavecchia's port and its surrounding urban area.
After the WWII the old medieval castle, located close to the port, was repaired
and nowadays tourists can enjoy it.
...humans can be masters of blowing things up!
ReplyDeleteYes, they we so able to destroy everything.
DeleteGiorgio, interesting photos.
ReplyDeleteMy friend, I salute you and I wish you a good new week!
Same to you, dear Anna :-)
DeleteThank you for sharing these photographs.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased that tourists can still enjoy visiting the Medieval Castle.
All the best Jan

Glad to hear you enjoyed those old black & white photos.
DeleteEs un lindo castillo que bueno que los restauraron. te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the appreciation. Have a nice new week!
DeleteIt is so good to put the heritage structure with an original photo to match it
ReplyDeleteTrue. That's important to preserve cultural identity. And old photos may be useful.
DeleteGiorgio, you didn't write who bombed this port. The Soviet Union is not to blame. It was probably Germany, or the USA, or Great Britain.
ReplyDeleteDo you really want to blame my country?
Dear Irina, it's easy to see that you are so toucky. This simply means that you have the mental habit of taking things too personally and may struggle to consider things from someone else's point of view.
DeleteI didn't blame your country. I didn't mention Russia in my post.
In addition to this, I think people know the history of the Second World War. During the second world war Russia didn't attack Italy. But you don't know this point.
That is a lovely castle. These photos show the bombing well, sadly war is a part of life it would seem. It is good that old photos still exist be it good or bad. It gives us something to look back on. That is why I like photography so much.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you had news of this over in Italy Giorgio, but we had a bad, bad storm hit us on Friday in Scotland. So much damage caused by the high winds.
Oh, no! I didn't hear of such a bad storm that hit Scotland last week. Sorry for damage caused by hard wind. I hope there were no victims.
DeleteLet me know other information as soon as you can, Ananka.
Take care!
