There are clouds of uncertainty over financial markets this week, as new China-based AI start-up, DeepSeek, has been showing its rapid innovation. It seems that DeepSeek can operate at a lower cost than American AI models.
On monday stocks of high-powered chip manufacturers, Nvidia and other American technology giants, decreased due the fact that debates have been fueling over the economic and geopolitical competition between US and China in developing AI technology.
This means, in my humble opinion, that we are not yet in a unipolar world completely ruled by the 0.05% richer people.
China just slapped US in the face
ReplyDeleteRight! China is systematically dismantling United States' delusions of AI dominance.
DeleteEl descalabro en bolsa que ha supuesto, ha sido impresionante....
ReplyDeleteBuenos dias Giorgio
Un abrazo
Actually Nvidia stocks fell by 17%.
DeleteLo specialista di finanza è mio marito.Ciao
ReplyDeleteWith regards to the fall of the US stock market, if someone wanted to understand what is going on, he/she wouldn't need any expert.
Delete...and my stock account shows it.
ReplyDeleteSorry for that, Tom! I hope it will recover after the selloff :-)
DeleteNot a big fan of AI. China is fast becoming the next super power. They always seem to do things a lot cheaper than the US.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on the storm. We were all surprised and shocked over here. We haven't seen anything like that before. Most things are back to normal. The news is now saying we will get another storm soon and snow storms as well. We shall see what happens.
Hello, Ananka!
DeleteGlad to hear things are back to normal in your country.
I've just heard that dangerous weather is expected in Scotland's central belt, including Edinburgh and Glasgow.
I Hope people will take action to keep themselves and others safe.
Take care!
Hi Giorgio, in my opinion we really have to be very careful with artificial intelligence. I talking about China, in my opinion, we in Europe have to do everything so that China willn't rule us soon.
ReplyDeleteGiorgio, I salute you and I wish you a good week!
Dear Anna, from a social point of view I think our policy-makers haven't understand yet how AI can affect us. The problem is that we, humans, don't know how AI could change the way we collect, aggregate and process information in our mind. Not to mention the increase in unemployment, given that AI can carry out an analysis or a graphic in a very short time compared to human beings.
DeleteYou wrote down an interesting point in you comment.
Enjoy the rest of this week ❄
ReplyDeleteIt's probably better that someone stands up to the US on this point.
Europe hasn't played a big role for a long time. We just react more.
Wish you a very nice evening
I agree on this, as I think that an unipolar world is not good.
DeleteAI is very interesting, and I have a fair bit to learn about as yet. I'll get there. Then I will make up my mind as to what I think about it.
ReplyDeleteI've just learnt a little about AI.
DeleteRegards :-)
The Chinese are the hardest working people on our planet. It seems like only recently China was the poorest country. And now they are the world's number one economy.
ReplyDeleteThe US does not want to accept that someone has overtaken them in technological development. Instead of fair competition, the Americans invent various sanctions and call China their enemy.
