World's multi-polarization

A 5th grade boy would understand that agreements between China and Russia are the opposition to United States egemony (1). As it is known, since 2014 the U.S. has been supplying weaponry to Ukraine in the name of 'persuading peace and promoting negotiations' (2). But, on the one hand, they demand that other countries are not allowed to do business with Russia. On the other hand, in October 2022 imports from Russia doubled from $ 332 million worth of goods  to $ 732. It means that despite the Western sanctions, USA's import of Russian goods has increased by 400 million in just one month (3). This is a typical example of hegemonic thinking.

Many experts said the stable and friendly relations between China and Russia are not only an important force in maintainng global stability, but also accelerate the decay of  U.S. hegemony in terms of unipolarism. In this perspective, the director of the China's Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, recently said that China's leadership is following a new vision of global sustainable security and cooperation, which consists of stability through multi-polarization (4).

Thank you for taking on board the need for aknowledgements and references, Giorgio... I would now encourage you to use the hyperlink function within the Blogger dashboard to ensure correct connections. By typing in the references, an error has occurred in the third.

I could not let pass such a singular comment re the import/export status of the US without further inquiry. My first thought was to go to the UN Comtrade page but that failed me, so backup was Statista where the comparison is made from Feb 2022 ('pre-war') and Nov 2022. It is clear from that the goods imported are mainly nonferrous metals, inorganic chemicals and fertilizers. This ties into the need for maintenance of food production, which must remain neutral to war. This becomes evident from This Document of declaration of ceasing trading with Russia for oil and other key product. Trade remains for the classifications as listed below the body of the declaration; those codes relate to salt, borates and other food and processing items. The US has at least stuck to the stated deal of not trading fossil/mineral fuels with Russia.

The same cannot be said for
Europe generally, the UK specifically, or, indeed, your home country. (Note that I could not access any more authorative content for italy; the first two articles on that link show Italy is still importing gas from Russia and the plan to stop doing so moved from "mid-2024" to "2025" between the two article reports! True it is reduced, but not ended.)

Please note I found Investogist - and see that it is a Nigerian magazine site. There was at least a nod to the source for that writer's article... but it too proved to be inaccurate, as the PDF opens up with data for Dec and Nov 2022 and not the stated Oct and Sep. Here is the link. Should you find it too dense, then drop to page 38 to see any reference to Russia.

And note that the US is not alone in sending arms to Ukraine.

Trade has always contined during war periods to greater or lesser degree. Your first paragraph seems to imply that the US alone is acting in trade, but this is simply not the case.

Why everyone gets all antsy about China's rise when the entire world has been dependent on that country for at least the last two decades is beyond me. As I am sure you are keenly aware, China is only for China and seeks to dominate the way all empires did ultimately - through trade. As trade is a peaceful pursuit, I have no objection to them.

And again, I fear my response is longer than your post! But that is what happens when you throw out a random selection of thought prompts!!! YAM xx

    1. Hello, Yamini. I like the accuracy of your comment, and it doesn't matter if it is longer than my post.

As you know, the US is the main supplier of arms along with the UK. Other countries have been sending a small quantity of older weaponry and military equipments. In the first paragraph I mean that the US is the main supplier. I don't know if some EU countries were pushed by the US to send weapons to Ukraine.
I heard something about Italy's anti-missile system that must be sent to Ukraine, due to the fact that Washington probably made such decision. In the Italian peninsula, which is located in the middle of the Mediterranean area, there are five anti-missile systems. In this strategic perspective, delivering one of such anti-missile systems to Kyiv is senseless. Is the Italian government compelled to send it to Kyiv? I can't say that, as I haven't any evidence.

Thanks for reporting the error which I made while I was typing the references: in the third one I wrote "impors" instead of "import".

There are interesting info in your answer! Thanks for that!

      Regards,

      G

  2. Hi Giorgio!
China, in my opinion, doesn’t want to help Russia - Beijing sees it’s interest in today's situation. They will "help" Russia, but in the future Russia will have to pay Beijing for this help. China, its dignitaries, want to be the biggest superpower in the world. The rulers in Beijing want the world to be completely dependent on China.
This cannot be allowed! We must also remember the crimes of the Chinese communists!

    1. Hello, Anna! As I mentioned above, I think we are going towards a world's multi-polarization. This means that neither China nor USA will rule the world.

Your last paragraph, about the crimes of the Chinese communists, reminds me words such as "let him who is without sin cast the first stone" from John 8:7. His words offer invaluable wisdom for all ages.

Thank you for sharing your interesting point of view, Anna :-)

Have a nice week ahead of you!

  3. Good morning Giorgio! I am very glad that now China is supporting Russia. China used to be neutral. US aggression has led Russia and China to become friends.

    1. The problem is that China, which is the world's most populous country, lacks sufficient reserves of strategic minerals. it reached a total population of 1.4 billion at the end of 2019 (not including Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan). That's why China sticks close to Russia.

I also hope China's will be able to generate stability thanks to its cautious diplomatic push.

Glad to know your point of view, Tanza :-)

  5. Reading your post, I fear to glimpse the first signs of a global political earthquake to arrive at a balance, I don't know how similar to the old cold war, between China and Russia on one side and the USA on the other with Europe squeezed in the middle like the cheese in a sandwich and I don't know if I'm more afraid of the earthquake (ie probable world war?) or the result that could follow afterwards.

    1. I'm afraid the EU will be "squeezed in the middle" as we see a cheese sandwick. The problem is that EU will probably continue to be a USA's satellite. We can already see how most EU countries are compelled to send weapons and anti-missile systems to Kyiv, although more that 50% Europeans disagree on this. Unfortunately, we can see this "obligation" in my country clearly, due to the fact that Italy will continue to send weapons and military equipment to Ukraine in 2023, although two parties of the government majority, Lega and Forza Italia, strongly disagree on this. In addition, the Italian people can't know the list of Italian weapons that will be sent to Ukraine, because of the so called "national security".
Sorry to say "welcome to the world of unconscious slaves".

Thanks for sharing your interesting thoughts about the interaction between world superpowers, Daniele :-)

  7. I tend to agree with Ирина Полещенко — US aggression has led Russia and China to become friends but of course, China has its own agenda.
It's a tenuous world we live in right now .
